The Benefits of Cupping Therapy
A Traditional Technique for Muscle Recovery and Pain Relief
Cupping therapy has been used for centuries to support healing, and in recent years, it has gained widespread recognition, with professional athletes – including Olympic teams – using it to speed up recovery from injury and reduce muscle soreness. This technique involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction, which helps release tension, improve circulation, and relieve painful, tight muscles.
I use cupping regularly in my practice in Christchurch, Dorset, and find it particularly effective for those suffering from stiffness, muscular pain, or post-exercise fatigue. Many of my patients tell me it’s highly addictive – in the best possible way! Once they experience the deep release it provides, they don’t want to go without it.
It’s important to note that while cupping is a safe and effective therapy, it should only be carried out by a properly trained practitioner to ensure it is done correctly and safely. Cupping may leave temporary marks or bruising on the skin, which is completely normal and usually fades within a few days.
